Hello & welcome to my small website on D-Models!

My name is Kate and I'm a spontaneous young woman of 28 years old. I'm always busy helping others or doing something nice and quiet some for myself.

As you can see I use an above knee prosthesis which gives me a lot of freedom of movement. I wear my prosthetic leg with pride because I have a long history of pain and loss of control behind me and now I have got my freedom in movement back.

When I was 6 years old all the trouble started with my left knee and these were very difficult to solve. At the age of 16 I also got problems with my left ankle after I sprained it very bad. The problems with my ankle were solved after 4 years by a team of specialists at another hospital. They have done some reconstruction to my ankle and after a year of rehab I was able to walk again without any problems. This team of specialists have also tried to fix my knee. This went very well in the beginning! After a full knee reconstruction and rehab of about two years nearly all of my problems were gone. I was about to go into the final phase of rehab in order to strengthen my muscles when I got involved in a car accident in 2011 at the age of 23. Because of the crash my left knee was damaged again and by a misjudgement of a doctor my left leg was forced into a cast. With this action they mostly pulled loose the reconstruction of the knee. The team of specialists who have previously helped me tried to get me going again, but unfortunately it was not possible to obtain a quality of life back in my leg. In February 2012 the team of specialists helped me to get rid of my pain with the amputation of my left leg just above the knee. Due to the good advice of the rehab team and the hard practice, I was able to walk out of rehab on a prosthetic leg only 18 weeks after the amputation and I only have to return for maintenance every now and then.

At the moment I fully enjoy life. After my health problems and also some personal problems as well I live happy together with my boyfriend. I definitely still have my days that walking isn't going very well but I don't mind. I'll take the day as it comes! The most important thing for me is that I do not need constant help in and around the house. I can joyfully go wherever I want and if it's not going to work I'll calmly do it the next day or I'll do it with the help of my boyfriend.

At the moment I'm not able to do a fulltime job so I'm a housewife. I don't get bored, because fortunately I have many hobbies that I can choose from. From glass engraving to designing stuff on paper to for example making cushion covers with a sewing machine. Also the baking of cakes and making funny treats is something I always help neighbours and friends out with pleasure. My kitchen is often turned into a real bakery! Every everning I take a nice walk together with my boyfriend through the city center or the neighborhood where we live. Or we enjoy a lovely everning of swimming to relax instead. I also can be found a lot in the pub to play darts. Playing darts is something I do with a lot of pleasure and is also my way of staying in touch with other people. If my stump doesn't allow me to have an active day I sit comfortable in my chair with a good book or with a piece of embroidery.

When they approached me to join D-Moddels I was very surprised and curious as well. Doing a photo shoot seemed very nice to me so I decided to do a test shoot. This turned out very well so I gave it a go and now I'm very happy that I can participate as a model. Just because I and the other models are different from others it is very nice and cool that we show ourselves like we are! We don't need to be ashamed of being different, we are beautiful as we are!

I hope you will like my photo's. My intention is to do much more photoshoots so I can show myself in a lot of different settings, with an without my prosthetic leg. I also hope that I can be an inspiration for other people with an amputation or other disabiltity. If you have a question for me or a suggestions for one of my next shoots feel free to send me an email!
