Hello & welcome to my small website on D-Models!

My name is Romy and I'm 27 years old. I live together with my boyfriend and my two cats. Since 1996 I have diabetes. In 2011 a wound grew under my left foot. After many hospitalizations and surgery to heal it I made the choice myself to have my left leg amputated below the knee. The amputation took place at May 17 2013.

For two months I was an intern resident in a rehabilitation clinic. I learned very quick and easy to be independent again with one leg. This means having a shower, dressing and undressing, to cook and a lot more daily things. After those two months I had to go to rehab three times a week to learn to walk again with a prosthetic leg. Also within two months I taught myself to walk again and to ride a bike. In daily life I'm still a bit limited sometimes, but for almost everything is a modification, and if not I invent something myself.

In the future I hope to go follow a study again or go to work. To see what is the best is what I'm busy with now. Because of the amputation I started to live my life differently, literally and figuratively. I've become much more open minded. I also talk a lot about the amputation and i'm not afraid to show my prosthetic leg to the outise world. In the summer I wear shorts and when I'm at the swimming pool I just take of my prosthetic leg. Why should I hide my amputation? Things I like to do in my spare time are drawing, cooking and figuring out what more is possible with prosthetics.

A few months ago I came into contact with D-Models after I responded to an item on social media. I was asked if I was interested in doing a photoshoot with them but I had never done a photo shoot before. After I consulted with my boyfriend and other relatives I decided to do the photoshoot. I'm satisfied with the result, because the photos show that I don't have to be ashamed that I had to undergo an amputation. In fact I'm proud of it because it saved my life.

I hope you will like my photo's as much as I do myself. I already agreed in doing another photoshoot again soon. I also hope that I can be an inspiration for other people with an amputation and that it is not weird to show yourself like you are now! If you have a question for me or a suggestions for my next shoot feel free to send me an email!
